i do plan on doing a simple tutorial at some point, but i'm not sure when it will happen! i can give you the gist of what i go through:
practice makes perfect :) and i tend to mess around with screen, soft light, and gaussian blur and then finally, sharpening. in order to keep icons from getting too sharp, you can use the "fade sharpen" option in "edit".
i also use a lot of layers. A LOT. along with color fills (usually about two, depending on how the coloring of the tv/movie/etc is). it really depends on hair color and skin tone for me. i try and help bring out the tone & hair coloring with each color fill, which i normally set to soft light. yellow backdrops tend to be the death of me though, but i tend to use a lot of selective color for things like that. sometimes, there's not much you can do about it and you have to just work with what you have!
i could perhaps help you by explaining more, since i'm not sure when a tutorial will make its way into this comm. all i would need to know is what your normal technique is and what you're struggling with atm ♥
edit: also, there are plenty of places to get psds! vividtruth @ livejournal is where i started experimenting with psds and i basically trudged through some of my favorite communities there to find psds to help me improve. i'm sure you can find something there, as well!

And I'm checking out the LJ comm now. Thank you again!

of course! you can also google "psds livejournal" and a bunch of options should show up. though, that means weeding through the ones that don't work for you. psds are very easy to manipulate tho, so i hope everything works out!
